Some talented candidates face financial barriers to pursuing an MBA at LBS. With the tuition fee for the 2-year MBA programme commencing this autumn standing at £119,950, the cost of attending this programme is now significantly higher than when we were students and post-graduate studies were subsidised to a great extent by government funds; this is no longer the case.
We wish to establish a specific fund in our class name to provide one or several scholarships to MBA students with demonstrable financial need, starting from the 2025-2026 academic year.
LBS fees for the MBA are the same for UK and international students. LBS aims to deliver good value for money relative to the programme length :
– LBS £120k, 15-21 months
– Harvard c. £150k, 21 months
– INSEAD c. £95k, 10 months
In 2023/24, LBS awarded 140 scholarships to 33% of its full-time MBA students. The School’s aim is to increase this level significantly in order to improve the acceptance level of MBA programme places offered to candidates, as on average US schools offer scholarships to 58% of students, and in Europe it is around 45%.
The MSc13(1980) Scholarship is aimed at high-potential candidates who meet the School’s requirements in terms of academic background, test scores and work experience, with no distinction based on race, nationality, religion, gender or sexual orientation. Without our support, candidates with demonstrable financial need may simply have to forego the opportunity of joining LBS’s world-class MBA programme.
Selection of the Scholarship recipient each year is at the sole discretion of the School’s Recruitment and Admissions Scholarship Committee, based on applicant credentials and financial need. Each scholar will receive an award of at least £50,000. Should a suitable candidate not be identified in any given year, the scholarship will roll over into the following academic year
David & Molly Pyott will match gifts and pledges from members of MSc13(1980) made by 31st July 2025, matching the first £25,000 of each individual commitment, up to a total value of £150,000. Donations can be made after this date, and indeed in future years, but will not benefit from David and Molly’s matching contribution.
£150,000 is the minimum threshold for LBS to set up a distinct named fund, which will be known as the “MSc13(1980) Class Scholarship”. The fund will continue to operate beyond the forthcoming academic year with the initial capital received by 31st July 2025 plus any future donations, thus providing scholarships in subsequent years, as determined by the School’s Recruitment and Admissions Scholarship Committee.
If the total funds raised exceed £150,000, the surplus will be allocated as follows: for an amount under £50,000, it will be added to the initial award. For amounts exceeding £50,000, either an additional award or an increased award will be made.
If, however, our donations plus David and Molly Pyott’s matching contribution do not reach the threshold of £150,000, the total will automatically be credited to the School’s Unrestricted Scholarship Fund which is used to award LBS Fund scholarships in the following academic year, thereby still helping outstanding MBA candidates, but without extending the specific legacy and memory of our class of 1980.
All donations and pledges are to be registered on-line on the School’s dedicated platform, the full web address of which is https://www.london.edu/campaigns/advancement/msc13-1980-scholarship. After indicating the total value of your donation, you can specify whether this is to be processed as a single payment, or in the form of a pledge paid in yearly or monthly instalments. We encourage you to register before 31st July 2025.
You can also specify whether this is an individual donation or made on behalf of a corporation, and whether you wish the donation to remain anonymous in any printed or on-line School publications relating to donors generally or our specific class scholarship.
The School will appropriately recognise the MSc13(1980) Class Scholarship Fund, and donors to said Fund (with the exception of those who requested to remain anonymous), in all appropriate London Business School printed and on-line publications, including the annual donor report and the scholarships pages of the School’s website.
Donations by UK, Canada, US and Hong Kong taxpayers can be made tax-efficiently. If you are a UK or Canada taxpayer, you may record your donation on the School’s dedicated platform by clicking here.
